
Professor Signorelli is a leading expert in public health and epidemiology, not only in his native Italy but also across the globe. He holds degrees from the universities of Milan, La Sapienza and London, and is particularly interested in the fields of public health, epidemiology, environmental health, health organisation, HIV/AIDS and other STIs. He holds Msc and PhD in Epidemiology.
He is active on a European level, having led work on sexual behaviour and HIV risk within the EU. He has written sixteen textbooks for university students and specialists, including a textbook of Epidemiological methods adopted as an official textbook in many Italian schools of medicine.
He has authored more than 500 scientific papers published in Italian and international scientific journals, and articles published in the popular press on hygiene, public health, health legislation. He also acts as director for View and Review Hospital, a bi-monthly scientific journal published in Milan, covering topics of hospital hygiene and epidemiology and hospital infection control.
Since 2002 is Secretary General, Italian Society of Hygiene, Preventive Medicine & Public Health (SitI), the Italian scientific society which aggregates over 2000 members including all the Italian university teachers of hygiene, epidemiology and public health and many public health officers working among National health service and private hospitals.
Research projects have included work on home hygiene, vaccines, hospital infections, STD & HIV and the health effects of air pollution.
